Sorry these are the best pictures we have right now. We will update if/when we get better ones.

A few days ago we had someone reach out for an insulated dog house and straw for a Mama Dog named Missy who lives in a rural community outside of Kotzebue. They also asked for us to send some de-wormer for 3 puppies, this made us reach out to find out what was going on with the puppies.

This is one of the sick puppies:

We were told that the 3 puppies are sick and throwing up worms. We reached out to our friends in the region, Paws Of Nome for advice on how to help Mom and her puppies. This is where we landed: The family is willing to surrender the puppies to Paws Of Nome who will coordinate their care in Anchorage. Once they are healthy they will go to foster/rescue to find their forever homes. Mom will be spayed and returned to the family.... at no cost to the family.

This is Missy:

HERE IS THE BREAKDOWN OF EXPENSES:

Sending 2 EMPTY kennels from Nome to village outside Kotzebue $100.00

Sending 2 FULL kennels to Anchorage 500.00 each ($1000.00)

Spay for Missy $200.00

Sending Mom back to her family $200.00

Total $1500.00 for the spay and all of the transportation costs. Paws Of Nome will organize/donate picking up and dropping off the dogs, the cost of medicine for the puppies, and other misc. expenses incurred not listed above.

Straw For Dogs dropped an insulated dog house and straw at Lynden in Anchorage today, (3/13) for Missy to have once she gets back. We are also sending a 20 ft tie out for her.

If you would like to help Missy and her puppies please donate here. Thank you in advance for any donation, every dollar helps. We are so grateful to everyone who supports us in our mission to help dogs living outside in Alaska....and also allows us to support and work with other animal rescue advocates in Alaska like Paws Of Nome.

While we at Straw For Dogs are not of the mindset that dogs should live outside in the cold away from their families, the reality is that many do.

We provide insulated dog houses and straw to dogs living outside in the harsh Alaskan climate. Even with a dog house and straw these living conditions are far from ideal. However, sending these resources are the most immediate action we can take to provide a little comfort to dogs who are suffering in the elements.

We continue to encourage people to bring their dogs inside (at least periodically for love and socialization), walk them, and play with them. We offer supplies to help with this as well.
