We are raising funds in support of the 28 young Atlanta protesters brutally arrested, tased and attacked by police at a peaceful protest for Palestine in Atlanta. We are reaching out as connected community members to preserve their anonymity. Funds raised over the goal will be dedicated to evacuation costs for families in Gaza.

There was a violent crackdown on many students protesting against Israel April 25th at Emory University in Atlanta, where Atlanta Police, Georgia State Patrol, and Emory Police swept onto the campus to break up an encampment by wrestling, tasing, tear gassing, arresting, and kidnapping protesters.

What happened to the medic and other protesters who were arrested?

The medic is a young Black man. He was tased 4 times leaving open wounds and scars on his body. 3 officers pinned him to the ground and actively tased him while he was already handcuffed. The video of this has gone viral online. The jailing of protesters was dehumanizing. Protesters did not receive medical care. On April 26th, when the arrested protesters were released, protesters' loved ones had to fend off media outlets who were stalking and chasing newly freed protesters as they were released in order to capture their identities, opening them for doxxing, targeting, and harassment. After the release of the medic, he went to urgent care, only to be treated as a criminal. They questioned the wounds as criminal activity, rather than providing the support he needed for his physical pain.

Why is this incident in Atlanta significant in the context of the larger struggle?

What happened to the Black medic is not a standalone event and is literally and metaphysically connected to the struggle in Palestine. Atlanta, in particular, is an important site of connection between protest against the Palestinian Genocide and militarized policing. This connection is structural, institutional, and well-funded. The Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange (GILEE) Program is a police exchange program that sends Atlanta police to Israel and other countries for training. Cop City is a $90+ million police militarization facility being built to practice urban warfare tactics. These military tactics are being used in Atlanta to harm, abuse, kidnap, and murder people, disproportionately impacting Black communities. Atlanta will not be free until Palestine is free.

Why is this type of support important and underfunded?

The struggles for Black and Palestinian liberation are interconnected, emphasizing the need for sustained resistance against militarized efforts to silence these movements. After experiences with police brutality and dehumanizing jail conditions, it is essential that we provide robust support to those individuals and their communities to heal from the experience. Common side-effects from police brutality can lead to long term physical and mental side effects, addiction, depression, and broken relationships.

What are the details of the fundraising?

We are raising funds to directly support the emotional, spiritual, and physical healing of the Black medic and other protesters who were brutalized.
