Restoring What Was Taken. Rebuilding What Belongs.

The legacy of slavery, colonialism, land dispossession, and the unlawful removal of sacred cultural heritage continues to impact African, Pan-African, and Rastafari communities across the globe. True healing requires more than acknowledging history, it demands concrete legal advocacy, historical accountability, and the restoration of community rights.

At the Haile Selassie I the First Foundation for Law and Society (HSFFLS), we are committed to advancing reparatory justice, voluntary repatriation pathways, and the return of stolen cultural treasures to their rightful homes.

How We Drive Restitution & Justice

Guided by the legacy of HIM Emperor Haile Selassie I, this campaign provides specialized research, policy advocacy, and community support across four key pillars:

Cultural Restitution: Supporting legal and diplomatic efforts to recover sacred objects, ancestral remains, archives, and stolen artworks currently held in overseas institutions.
Voluntary Repatriation Pathways: Examining legal frameworks surrounding citizenship, residency, land access, and property rights for individuals and communities seeking to return home.
Legal Research & Policy Advocacy: Conducting rigorous legal research, participating in amicus curiae briefs, and supporting coalition building across North America, Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean.
Community Education & Capacity: Partnering with affected communities to build long-term legal capacity, public education, and sustainable justice initiatives.
