WHAT IS PAHC?

The Pilipino Association for Health Careers started through a group of students who recognized the need for a support system among Cal pre-health students. PAHC aims to promote current health issues in and around the Pilipino community, as well as extended communities. We develop a structure of dedicated students to integrate their knowledge, experience, and skills to seek information on various health issues and careers. PAHC provides information and services to aid the Pilipino community especially and, in addition, to all who are health conscious both academically and individually.

WHAT IS PBC?

PAHC hosts its annual PAHC Benefit Concert (PBC), which celebrates an educational theme that brings awareness to health issues persisting within and relation to the Pilipino diaspora. Traditionally, there has been performers of Pilipino identity and even community performers from our UC Berkeley community. All the proceeds raised will be donated to local and international grassroots organizations that support health causes.

With this concert, we hope to further our mission statement through raising awareness of the intersection that health shares with advocacy and other fields and supporting organizations that promote community care of Pilipino and our surrounding communities.

The theme for PBC’s 28th year, “The Youth is the Hope of the Motherland”, offers a sense of optimism for the Philippines and Pilipinos around the world. It empowers the next generation of Pilipinos to advocate for, educate themselves on, and deeply care for the Philippines and the obstacles that it works to overcome every day. This reflects our commitment to educate ourselves and others, including future healthcare workers, on issues that persist within Pilipino communities and those adjacent as well. The following theme aligns with PBC’s mission to empower and uplift any individual, group, and/or cause through artistic expression and community. From this event, we hope to support the Phillipines and Pilipino communities in a way that will make those that participate and attend feel uplifted to speak to those within and outside the Pilipino community about issues they care deeply for.

DARRELL MEDELLIN

Darrell Medellin is a Hip-Hop artist and creative from Union City, CA with roots from Cebu City, Philippines. With a range from singing, melodies and lyricism Darrell’s wide range in style something his current fans and future listeners will appreciate.

KISSMITS

KissMits is a 4 piece dream-rock band from Sacramento, CA featuring Ruby, Terenne, Jazz, and Gabe. This group provides a dreamy, ethereal, and outgoing feeling to their performances which will be greatly enjoyed by listeners.

TRULY HAN

Truly Han, AKA Nathan Francisco, is a pianist, singer, and songwriter from Fontana, CA. His marsh-mellow like voice, touch on the keys, and lyricism complement each other to elicit an intimate warmth out of his music.

NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR FILIPINO CONCERNS (NAFCON)

NAFCON is a national multi-issue alliance of Filipino organizations, institutions, and individuals that responds to the concerns of Filipinos in the US and in the Philippines by creating a platform that brings people together through culture & heritage, education, health & wellness, and advocacy.

Campaign: Bayanihan Response for Disaster Relief

"The National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON) appeals for donations for its Bayanihan Relief and Rehabilitation Program to provide immediate support for communities affected by the recent disasters in the Philippines.

When typhoons and disaster hit, many residents have been forced to flee their homes and congregate in crowded evacuation centers where they are vulnerable to the spread of disease and infections. Farmers and indigenous people who rely on agricultural livelihood are devastated as heavy rains and landslides led to the destruction of agricultural crops and homes. Students’ classrooms and educational materials in those areas were also destroyed.

As part of our Bayanihan Community Response campaign, NAFCON will consistently respond to the needs of affected communities for relief, rehabilitation, and rebuilding. We will partner with tried-and-tested local community-based organizations to provide timely and effective assistance to the most impacted families and communities."

A portion of funds from the event will be directed towards relief efforts for those affected by Typhoons Tino and Uwan.
