Story

Welcome to the Rhode Island Black Philanthropy Month (RIBPM) Campaign.

The MUSE Foundation of Rhode Island (#MUSEOFRI) created the Rhode Island Black Philanthropy Month (RIBPM) initiative as a collective giving an awareness campaign that highlights black lead organizations by demystify philanthropy for the Rhode Island black community at large in strategic partnership with United Way of Rhode Island every August.

In 2021 The MUSE Foundation of Rhode Island (#MUSEOFRI) worked with Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza was the first New England city to sign a proclamation that recognizes Black Philanthropy Month (BPM). Then in August 2022 The MUSE Foundation of Rhode Island worked with Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee to sign a statewide proclamation making Rhode Island the first state in New England to recognize Black Philanthropy Month.

Donations from the campaign will go towards the RI Black Philanthropy Month Legacy Fund managed by the Rhode Island Foundation

During the month of August we'd like to highlight the "B" in BIPOC ... but please support Black Philanthropy 365 days of the year!

About Black Philanthropy Month (BPM), is a global celebration and concerted campaign to elevate African-descent giving and funding equity. Incubated starting in 2001 by its Founder Dr. Jackie Bouvier Copeland, with the support of Reunity, formerly the Pan-African Women's Philanthropy Network, BPM launched in 2011 with its first official global summit to commemorate the United Nations Year and Decade of People of African Descent. In 2020 during the global pandemic there were 10 Black Funding Principles developed.
