In the Dominican Republic, countless children of Haitian immigrants live in poverty, unable to attend school.
Instead of learning and playing like other children, they are often seen on the streets, their futures slipping away before they’ve even begun.

At Right to Learn Global Literacy Project, Inc, we believe every child deserves the gift of education. We saw the urgent need, and in November 2024, we opened the doors of our new school for underserved Haitian and Dominican children in Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic.

We began with 76 little ones, ages 3 to 5, and funded four classrooms. This year, we welcomed even more children, including a class for 6-year-olds, bringing enrollment to 114 students, nearly full capacity for our temporary rented space.

We know this rented building is only a short-term solution. By the 2027–2028 school year, it will no longer be able to house our growing student body.

From the very beginning, families have lined up with hope, waiting for a chance to enroll their children. The waiting list has been long, yet due to limited space and funds, we’ve had to turn away many children—each “no” breaking our hearts. In this small community alone, there are hundreds of children who remain out of school because of poverty.

At Right To Learn, we are committed to changing that. Our vision is to expand and open the doors wider, so no child has to be turned away. To continue offering consistent, high-quality education, we must build a new school to accommodate our students.

We have secured a suitable property in our neighborhood to build a school which will meet the needs of our growing student population. However, the property is not fully paid for. We need your help in order to complete payment on this property and begin construction.

First, we need to raise $138,000 to pay for the property.

Then our building project will consist of two phases:

Phase one will be building classrooms to accommodate our preschool, our primary school, offices, library and a kitchen/cafeteria to cook and serve meals for our students. This will cost approximately $250,000

Phase two will be building additional classrooms. This will cost approximately $150,000.

With your help, we can make this dream a reality.

Our goal is to begin construction in spring of 2026 so that our students will be able to continue their education in the new building for the 2027–2028 school year. If not, so many students will be unable to attend school as we will be at maximum capacity in our present rented space.
