Open Labs in the Parks Launch

A Railroad Tracks Music Academy Initiative with the Chicago Park District

Music has always been a powerful tool for expression, healing, and connection. Through music, people share their stories, build confidence, and discover creative paths that can change their lives.

That’s why Railroad Tracks Music Academy is launching Open Labs in the Parks, a new partnership with the Chicago Park District designed to bring free music creation and education programs directly into Chicago communities.

Beginning March 30, we will launch a 12-week pilot program at Seward Park, introducing youth, adults, and families to the creative world of:

• Songwriting

• Music Production

• Recording

• Creative Expression through Music

Unlike traditional classes, Open Labs are collaborative creative spaces where participants of different ages and backgrounds can learn together, experiment with music technology, and express themselves through sound.

This program is designed to be multi-generational, bringing together young people, adults, and community members in a shared creative environment where learning, mentorship, and inspiration can happen naturally.

Through this partnership, Railroad Tracks Music Academy will provide 288 hours of free programming throughout 2026 across several Chicago parks, including Seward Park, Pulaski Park, Washington Park, Humboldt Park, and Hamilton Park.

Why We’re Fundraising

While the park district is providing the space for these programs, we are raising funds to support the resources needed to bring these music labs to life.

• Recording gear and creative tools

• Instructor support and program staff

• Workshop materials for participants

• Program setup and coordination

Our goal is to raise $10,000 to launch the Open Labs in the Parks pilot program and ensure that participants have access to the tools and guidance they need to create and learn.
