The Channel Islands hold a special place in my heart and capture my imagination. They are home to a diverse ecosystem full of unique creatures - including the Channel Island Fox, a(n adorable) species of Fox that is found nowhere else on earth. I am supporting Friends of the Island Fox in their mission to support the foxes through research, education, and conservation programs. I will be running the Avalon 50K on Catalina Island this January and hope to do some good for the foxes who live there as a part of my ultra marathon journey. Please consider joining me to help preserve the unique island ecosystems of the Channel Island and the foxes who live there 🦊

Cassidy's and your support purchased 4 radio collars!
Cassidy's 4 refurbished radio collars are out on foxes!
Island fox populations are stableacross the Channel Islands, but recovery is only as sustainable as our participation in protecting them from introduced threats.
Radio Monitoring
Radio-tracking
collars remain the best technology for monitoring island fox survival.
These collars allow biologists to determine from a distance that an
island fox is alive and active in its habitat. If something happens to a
fox and it stops moving for 6 hrs, the radio collar signal changes,
alerting biologists that something has happened to that individual
island fox. Quick response to the death of a collared fox allows new
diseases or other threats to be discovered early–protecting the rest of
the uncollared population.
Avalon 50K Update - Island foxes are sad to report that Cassidy Smith has sustained an injury making her unable to run in theAvalon 50K on Saturday, January 7. The sponsorships she has received will be carried over to a new race and still go to work helping island foxes.
