At The Free Store, we believe dignity should never be a luxury.

Our new community shower project will provide safe, accessible, 24/7 shower access for homeless and vulnerable neighbors in Corpus Christi — offering not just hygiene, but comfort, humanity, and hope. For someone living without stable housing, the ability to take a shower can mean the confidence to attend a job interview, access medical care, reconnect with loved ones, or simply feel human again.

This project reflects the spirit of Ruth Korn Josephs, whose life was rooted in compassion, inclusion, and service to others. Ruth spent decades fighting inequality, supporting community causes, uplifting marginalized people, and teaching those around her that the worst word in the English language was “exclusive,” because it always meant someone was left out.

Her life embodied radical kindness, generosity, and the belief that every person deserves dignity and belonging.
