Join us for an evening of service, learning, and hope! The Policy Project is making an important stop in Salt Lake County on our journey to raise awareness and garner state-wide support for The Safe Child Project. The goal of The Safe Child Project is to end child sexual abuse in Utah through expanding child sexual abuse prevention education for K-6 students and by empowering parents and community leaders with the tools they need to keep kids safe.

This event provides an opportunity for parents, community members, and local leaders to learn more about The Safe Child Project, participate in trainings led by experts on abuse prevention, and create an actionable plan to prevent child sexual abuse within their families and communities. Attendees will also help support their local Children’s Justice Center through a donation drive and service project!

Agenda:

The Safe Child Project: Learn about the current status of child sexual abuse in Utah and the most impactful ways we can solve this issue—including the effort to expand prevention education for K-6 students.
Training: How You Can Reduce the Risk of Child Sexual Abuse: Led by experts from Saprea, learn the top 5 ways you can reduce the risk of child sexual abuse for the kids in your life. Create a safety plan for your family or organization around topics like technology use, sleepovers, and extracurricular activities.
K-6 Prevention Education Preview: Prevent Child Abuse Utah will present one of their classes designed to give elementary students the tools needed to recognize, resist, and report abuse. This is a great opportunity to become familiar with how easy it can be to talk with your own family about abuse prevention!

In addition to these important trainings, the event will include treats, upbeat music, and a whole lot of joy and positivity as we present solutions to such a heavy issue. Although the target audience is adults, the content is age-appropriate for teens and young children who may attend.

Service Project:

We are organizing a donation drive for the local Children's Justice Centers—a homelike facility that supports children and families facing the crisis and chaos resulting from the disclosure of significant physical or sexual abuse of a child.

The local Children's Justice Center is in need of the following donations:

New small stuffed animals, 10” or smaller
New blankets, approx. 40x50”
Individually packaged snacks (i.e., fruit snacks, goldfish, granola bars, apple sauce, rice crispy treats, pretzels, chips, crackers, water bottles)

While bringing donations to the event is not mandatory, we strongly encourage those who can contribute to do so.

During the event, attendees will write cards to the children, parents, and employees of the Children's Justice Center to accompany the donations we will deliver to them.
