As we celebrate the incredible life Dolly led and inspired us to strive toward, we invite you to join the 9-2-5 kick-off.
Give. Inspire. Challenge.

Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley, in partnership with the Child Development Institute, is committed to securing the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program for kids across the San Fernando Valley. This ambitious undertaking could place hundreds of thousands of books into the hands and homes of children throughout our region each year. Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley is committed to building a Foundation for Lifelong Learning through the Cooper Literacy Program. That is why BGCWV board has committed to supporting children in their earliest years, kids under 5. Did you know this is a critical period of brain development, language acquisition, and social-emotional growth? Yet many children enter kindergarten without consistent access to books or opportunities to develop the early literacy skills they need to thrive in school.

By partnering with the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, we will address this challenge right here at home. How? By mailing one carefully selected book each month directly to every enrolled child. Because the books are addressed to the children themselves, their arrival creates excitement around reading while helping families build home libraries of their own.

Research associated with the Imagination Library has found that participating families read together more frequently, children demonstrate greater interest in books, and parents feel more confident reading with their children. Some studies have also found promising improvements in children’s early literacy skills.

Providing books during the first five years of life is about much more than teaching children to recognize words. Reading together strengthens relationships between children and caregivers, expands vocabulary, encourages curiosity, and helps prepare children to enter school ready to learn. Strong early literacy skills can also contribute to improved academic performance, higher graduation rates, and better long-term educational and economic outcomes.

$2.60 provides one book to a San Fernando Valley kid for one month. $31.20 provides twelve books to a San Fernando Valley kid, one a month for one year. Our launch goal will secure 14,499 kids who can start to receive these books monthly. Long-term, the need will be for up to 105,000 kids.
