45 YEARS OF 621 — AND A MOMENT THAT COULD DEFINE WHAT COMES NEXT.

On October 17, 621 Gallery celebrates 45 years of contemporary art in Tallahassee. This anniversary comes at a critical moment.

This year, 621 Gallery has lost approximately $17,000 in anticipated Dept of State, Division of Arts and Culture grant funding. In addition, we are facing another $28,000 potential loss from the local COCA Cultural Grant as the county reviews the impact of new Florida legislation SB 1134 taking effect January 1, 2027. This bill bans counties and municipalities from funding, promoting, or taking official action related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

For a small nonprofit gallery, that potential $45,000 loss means we could lose everything. These funds support rent, staff pay, exhibition costs, program supplies, and the stability needed to keep our doors open. While 621 Gallery has always been able to raise and match our grant income, we cannot do that without the stability provided to ensure our staff is paid and rent is made.

For 45 years, 621 has created space for bold, experimental, and challenging contemporary art. Work that reflects lives, experiences, and perspectives from across our community and beyond.

Showing these exhibitions is not a DEI initiative. It is providing our community with the art and culture it deserves.

This October, we are not only asking you to celebrate 45 years of art and community. We are asking you to help protect what comes next.

Our goal is to raise $45,000 for 45 years of 621.
