Fern waited over a month for her owner to come back.

At the shelter, they stayed in contact with her previous owner. They truly believed she was going home so they finally moved forward with her spay but when they called her owner, she said she didn’t want Fern anymore.

Just like that, Fern was abandoned.

The very next day, we saw her at CPAS and something was very wrong. She was bleeding heavily after her spay, weak, and clearly not okay.

We didn’t hesitate. We rushed her straight to the emergency vet.

Fern has a hernia that will require surgery. Her bloodwork came back concerning, and when they rechecked it, her levels were still dropping. The veterinary team made the call to wait and stabilize her before attempting surgery because right now, that’s what she needs to survive.

On top of that, Fern also has cherry eyes that will require surgical correction once she is stable enough at our regular vet.

This is not a small bill. This is emergency care, ongoing monitoring, and multiple surgeries, but leaving her behind was never an option.

We also took in Jordan and Oliver yesterday, both suffering from demodex which is completely treatable, but still requiring medication, supplies, and care.

And the truth is, we are at our limit. We cannot continue saying yes without the funds to support it.

Right now, everything is going toward Fern and the dogs already in our care. Without immediate donations, we will not be able to help the next dog who needs us.

We don’t want to start turning away animals.
But we will have to.
