Every week, hundreds of children, families, and athletes walk through the doors of Top Shelf Ice Arena in Gurnee, Illinois — not just to skate, but to connect, grow, and belong.

For years, our rink has been a safe and positive space for youth hockey players, figure skaters, and adaptive athletes from across the region. It’s where lessons are learned, friendships are formed, and lifelong memories are made.

Among serving thousands of youth hockey families, and the skating public, we are home to Pucks For Autism, Chicago Special Hockey, Rising Stars, all geared programming for bringing ice sports to those who might not otherwise have the chance.

But like many community facilities, the rink faces high maintenance and operational costs. To keep the ice frozen and programs affordable, we need constant resources. This year, we lost the ice for two months and needed to replace a key piece of equipment at the cost of $250,000–not including lost revenue. This is only one piece of equipment. There are many others with a similar price tag and they all work together to keep the ice frozen.

Most rinks are funded by taxpayers and run by park districts or municipalities. Frozen Floor is the parent of Top Shelf Ice Arena and is your community ice rink—operated for and on behalf of our community.

The Frozen Floor Rink Inc. is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) public charity corporately based in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. But the rink operates out of neighboring Gurnee Mills Mall in Illinois.

We are the nonprofit mission driver behind Top Shelf Ice Arena — ensuring that local youth, families, and adaptive skaters have an affordable, safe, and inspiring place to play and grow.
