The fundraiser first started by Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship over a decade ago is back with the first campaign of 2024! Your donation of at least $5 helps support SBTS’ mission to revitalize mountain communities, using trails as a tool, while also giving you a chance to win this brand-new Cervélo Áspero-5 gravel bike worth $7,500.

Each $5 donation gives you another chance to win the Áspero-5 sleek rose gold frame in a size of your choice, outfitted with a Shimano electronic GRX 11-speed drivetrain, Reserve wheels, WTB Vulpine 40 tire in front and a WTB NanoRaptor 40 in the rear, and an integrated Smartpak toptube bag. If you’re looking for speed, or an extra edge on the race course, you’ll find it in the Áspero-5, which gobbles KOMs and QOMs for breakfast. The frame’s tubes are shaped from Cervélos aerodynamically proven technology and a cut out in the seat tube helps save a whopping 32 grams of drag, a testament to Cervélo’s long racing heritage. The Áspero-5 is also the perfect bike for SBTS’ upcoming Lost & Found Gravel Festival, held June 15, in Portola, California, and arrangements can be made to pick up the bike in person at the festival and participate in one of the three race routes: 35, 60 or 100 miles.

Along with the bike, the prize package also includes two nights accommodation at the new Beckwourth High Camp off-grid glamping cabins near Portola, with access to hundreds of miles of gravel roads. The winner can arrange to pick up the bike and immediately put it into adventure-mode with a stay and ride from the High Camp.

Your dollars will go directly to support Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship and our Connected Communities project, part of which includes the creation of a 550-mile multi-use singletrack trail, connecting 15 rural Lost Sierra towns, with the overall goal of economic stimulation. Once completed, these sections of singletrack can be linked with a vast network of existing paved and gravel doubletrack to create a plethora of gravel-bike-friendly bikepacking routes in the Lost Sierra, that dip in and out of local towns for resupply, restaurant and lodging options. We’ve made significant progress on Connected Communities, with multiple trail projects throughout the proposed footprint in the environmental review process or under construction, but linking together all 550 miles by the 2030 target date is going to require heavy lifting from volunteers, as well as donations. Campaigns like 5 Bucks a Foot campaigns raise unrestricted dollars, which go much farther than other types of funding, like government grants, because they don’t require costly matches or staff resources to administer. Donating to 5 Bucks a Foot is a huge boost to our organization and could sweeten your bike stable at the same time!

How It Works

For those unfamiliar with the 5 Bucks a Foot program, this fundraising campaign will run between Tuesday, May 7 and Tuesday, June 4, and for every foot of trail purchased at $5 per foot (the average cost of building a trail), participants get entered for a chance to win. The more feet of trail you buy, the better your chances of winning. It is open to U.S. and international entries. The winner will be able to select the frame size of their choice: 48, 51, 54, 56, 58 or 61.

A Fundraiser to Support Connected Communities

This campaign is the first of three 5 Bucks a Foot fundraisers we have planned in 2024 (the original mountain bike campaign returns in July with a Santa Cruz bike as the grand prize, while our moto “Twist The Throttle for Trails” fundraisers returns later this fall) with proceeds from all three benefitting our Connected Communities Project, a visionary effort we’re leading in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and community partners to use trails as a catalyst for economic revitalization. The project’s intent is to connect 15 mountain towns with a multi-use signature route made up of existing and new trails that would bring trail users directly into rural communities to help support local businesses. Connected Communities also strives to diversify recreation throughout the region by creating A Trail For Everyone, as well as support fire recovery and prevention efforts through fuels reduction and vegetation management practices.

For a decade, 5 Bucks a Foot has supported Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship’s efforts to make #dirtmagic in the Lost Sierra region of northern California, raising more than $1 million for trails.

The "5 Bucks Cervélo and Beckwourth High Camp Fundraiser" fundraiser is open to contestants worldwide. By participating in the "5 Bucks Cervélo and Beckwourth High Camp Fundraiser'" fundraiser, you consent to SBTS sending you additional information and updates related to this donation drawing and other SBTS news. The winner must be 18 years or older and reside in a locality where participation is legal. No purchase is necessary to enter. To enter without purchase, you may mail a handwritten postcard (form) to SBTS at: SBTS, 550 Crescent Street, Quincy, CA 95971. Containing your (i) full name; (2) mailing address, including street address, city, state/district, and zip code (P.O. boxes not accepted); (3) telephone number; (4) email address; and (5) date of birth. All write-in entries must be postmarked by May 29, 2024 and received by June 1, 2024 and only one mail in entry per person will be accepted. All submission forms must be received no later than 11:00 p.m. PST on June 4, 2024.
