As we reflect on the past year, we are filled with a profound sense of gratitude for the journey this community has been on together. It has been a year of incredible challenges, yet it has also been a year of remarkable growth and affirmation.

Three Generations of Care

As a center that is now caring for its third generation of local children, we have been reflecting about the role the Sandwich Children's Center plays in our community. While SCC provides a place where our children feel safe, loved, and nurtured, and a place where our educators feel supported and appreciated, the Board is committed to SCC being a place where families and caregivers can find the support and resources they need. In our hearts, we know that the Sandwich Children's Center is more than a center for children, it's a center for families.

Centering Our Families

We’ve undertaken numerous initiatives to center our families at the SCC over the past year and we are proud to share them with you:

Toddler Room Renovation: We partnered with a local construction company to renovate the old toddler room to create a beautiful, safe, age-appropriate room for our youngest learners.
Building Upgrades: We made several investments in the efficiency and sustainability of our historic building by making weatherization improvements, including additional attic insulation, a sump pump and vapor barrier in crawl spaces, new windows and blinds, pipe wrap, thermostats, and heat pumps for heating and cooling.
Programmatic Focus: The SCC’s programming remains nature-inspired and we use outdoor play and exploration to foster a love for the natural world. In addition, our teachers are focusing on NHDOE early childhood learning standards for social and emotional development, helping our children develop critical life skills.
Educator Support: We've attracted highly-qualified teachers through improved salary and professional development opportunities.
Extended Care: We’ve significantly extended our hours, bringing back the entire school age program (K-3rd grade), full-day programs (8am-5pm). We’ve also added storm day and February/April vacation care to better accommodate family needs.
Parent and Community Engagement: We are building relationships with the local elementary school and other local childcare centers to create a network of support for our children. We will be creating a space at the SCC where parents can donate outgrown clothes, books, and toys to share with other families.

Help Us Serve Another Generation

We need your support in sustaining the quality care we provide children and their families. A gift to the SCC will primarily help with enhancing the day-to-day program experience. This includes classroom supplies, teacher professional support, building repairs, and additional energy efficiency updates. The SCC also intends to grow our endowment so that we can weather any unforeseen challenges and ensure the center's long-term financial health.

By supporting the SCC, you are not just investing in a childcare center; you are investing in the future of our community. Together, we can build a brighter future for our children and local families. In the words of an SCC parent, “I am most proud of the fact that despite all of the challenges in the early childhood education system, the staff at SCC continues to commit themselves to the highest quality of care. We really feel like the SCC is encouraging collaboration and togetherness while fostering an environment of community among the children and their families.”
