maría m's Story

this is my third year lifting at PDP and i love how it motivates me to be strong for my community. in 2024, i raised $680 and hit a PR of 300 lbs (more than doubling the ask), and last year, i raised $1,625 and hit two new PRs (320 and 335 lbs) and nearly five times the ask. not too bad, right?

well, the thing is, we can never rest on our laurels too long, especially if we're on a pier like the ones on lake washington. (we'd be sitting by the dock of the bay, then. and that's no good for any of us.) this year i'm going to shoot for 360 pounds and see how i do [1], but the lofty dream is 405. i'm not going to do any fancy math for you regarding a goal but in the words of the internet, the goal for fundraising is "number go up." for all intents and purposes, let's say $2,000?

SO: this is where i ask you whether you'll stand by me (cue the ben e. king) in this exciting opportunity for me to *get huge and make number go up*! if you're thinking, "yeah, that sounds lovely. maría is a [adjective] [noun] and i want to support her!" [2] then do one or more of the following:

  • if you'd like to contribute, do so here!
  • if you're in Seattle on Saturday, June 20, come see me lift!
  • spread the word to our people in common!
in past years, there's been rumors of the event streaming and i'll keep you posted if they plan to do so! in any event i'm excited to do this again this year and would love you to support me in one of the most important parts of my life.

thanks again, i remain your most humble and obedient servant, etc. etc.
maría dolores

[1] training has been a lot harder this year because of some medical stuff that's come up. i'm pushing myself and even trained while traveling for three weeks (shout out to B&W Gym in Chicago; you're a real one).

[2] some values for "[adjective] [noun]" could include: "brave soul", "beloved sister", "good daughter", "strong girlfriend", "thoughtful meta", "daring friend", "remarkable coworker", "solid homie", et cetera.
