Along the way, you’ll hear about some of our pups, like momma Dusty and her crew (it’s spay and neuter time for this bunch), great pups like Maggie and Milan who somehow haven’t been picked (yet) and pups like Malone and Maddie who found their second chances but are back with us hoping for a third.

Pup Squad is all about puppies and their mommas who come with lots of “normal” expenses like vaccines, spay or neuter surgeries and de-wormer, which run about $300 a puppy. Unfortunately, sometimes other issues pop up. Puppies get sick, mommas need heartworm treatment, the list goes on. While these aren’t exactly surprises, they do add up.

Now we need your help. Almost 6,000 pups got their second (or third chances) with Pup Squad. Can you help us say YES to more second chances?

About Pup Squad

Pup Squad was founded in 2008 by four former volunteers from BARC, the City of Houston Animal Control facility, who had seen too many puppies become sick and too many momma dogs euthanized due to lack of space. Local shelters are often overwhelmed by the number of animals brought into the facilities and even under the very best of circumstances, young puppies are at risk in any environment with a large population of animals coming from the street. They knew there had to be a better way.

We are an all-volunteer, foster-based organization and work with area shelters and the community to rescue pups before they are exposed to dangerous diseases, and we pledge never to leave a momma dog behind. Since late 2008, Pup Squad has rescued over 6,000 pups from the greater Houston area.

Pup Squad assumes responsibility for our pups’ medical care while they are in our program. When our pups are adopted, they are up to date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped and are heartworm negative. All pups also receive routine vet care such as de-worming, flea and tick treatment, and heartworm prevention. Many of our momma dogs come into our program with heartworm disease, but Pup Squad ensures they are treated and healthy before they go to their homes forever.

While our focus has always been on rescuing puppies and their mommas, we also stand by those who haven't yet found their forever homes. Some have grown up with us, some are returning pups, while others are patient mommas awaiting their own 'Happily Ever After'. These loyal companions often come with medical needs and require extra care, from treating skin issues to addressing the challenges of aging.
