A debt that never ends

An estimated 14.5 million people live in modern slavery across South Asia, many of them trapped in debt bondage.

It starts small: a loan for a medical bill, or a bad harvest. But the debt grows faster than the wages, and it never gets paid off.

Instead, it gets inherited. A child is born owing a debt they didn’t take on, at a brick kiln they didn’t choose, just like their parents and grandparents before them.

Christians and other religious minorities are hit hardest. In one province, about 60% of brick kiln workers are Christian.

The law is already on their side

Bonded labor is already illegal across South Asia. These families aren’t waiting on a new law. They’re waiting for someone to enforce it.

That someone is a lawyer.

About this campaign

Seek. Send. Serve. is a 60-day campaign to launch Life and Freedom Alliance’s first legal defense program in South Asia, freeing families from bonded labor and building our local legal team.

Your support covers the whole path to freedom:

Independent case verification
Local attorneys who negotiate a family’s release or take the case to court
A safe home for the family
School for the children
A rickshaw so each family can earn its own income

A family together, a rickshaw driver at work, and children walking to school in South Asia
