Dear Pride Frisco Community--

A ban on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) on public colleges and universities in Texas has tragically resulted in the closure of LGBTQ+ resource centers.

For many years, these "homes away from home" have provided a sense of belonging, programming, and vital resources such as mental health services, trans and nonbinary support groups with assistance for name and gender marker changes in university records, and community events for LGBTQIA+ students. According to the Trevor Project, students who said their campuses had LGBTQ student services reported 44% lower odds of attempting suicide when compared to those without those services.

Clearly, the closing of these safe spaces and school-supported resources has a devastating impact upon queer students' sense of wellbeing, safety, and community.

Pride Frisco has been working with LGBTQ student-run organizations and various supportive entities at college campuses in Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant counties.

We are asking for your help to send North Texas LGBTQ college students to PRIDE FRISCO FEST 2024! If we achieve our funding goals by September 15, we will be arranging round-trip bus shuttles.

Pride Frisco Festival 2024 will have many leading LGBTQ resource organizations providing information on their programs and services. These organizations include GLAAD, the Human Rights Campaign, Lambda Legal, the ACLU of Texas, Equality Texas, Finn's Place, HELP Center for LGBT Health and Wellness, Prism Health North Texas, North Texas LGBT Chamber, PFLAG Dallas and Mesquite chapters, and many more.

Together, we can help LGBTQ college students feel less alone, receive access to affirming resources, and connect with a loving, supportive community that is here for them. Thank you for your support and consideration.
