Sertoma, Inc. is the parent organization for the Jack O’Kelley Sertoma Club. We are

dedicated to “SERvice TO MANkind” and are committed to hearing and speech health.

We primarily serve and support the hearing and speech impaired, as well as programs

that are geared toward the development of youth and our community.

Our club was established in 1986 and was named after the prominent leader and

educator in the Burlington-Alamance County and surrounding area. Jack O’ Kelley was

an athlete, educator, politician, and humanitarian. He retired from the Technical College

of Alamance. He was a teacher at Elon College Elementary School, a principal at

Graham Elementary School, and a principal at Graham High School. He was also the

first black person to serve on the Alamance County Board of Commissioners and

served as a county commissioner for over 10 years.

The club is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

Alamance Community College

The Jack O’Kelley Sertoma Club has established and sponsored the Jack O’Kelley

Endowment Scholarship at Alamance Community College. The primary purpose of the

scholarship is to provide funds to assist students who have speech, hearing, or

language disabilities. This scholarship has been awarded annually since 1991.
