💗 Introduction:

An important part of our mission in empowering indigenous communities, has to do with empowering the women.

Indigenous women are key in the protection and preservation of the Amazon Rainforest. Not only do they give life to the guardians of the Forest and of the ancestral ways, but they are also their caretakers and the main keepers of the traditions and culture.

We have begun to support them by providing materials and education to empower them to learn new skills. With these skills, the women can offer more financial support to their families and step into leadership roles.

We have seeded initial projects to help the women and found that the whole village is benefiting from them. The transformation and positive impact we have witnessed amongst the women – elders, adults and children – through this work, has revitalized the entire community. A powerful testament to the value of your contributions, love and support.

With your help, we would like to continue to grow these initiatives and empower the village's women to have their sovereignty, dignity and leadership.

💰 Your Support Covers:

$25,000 USD - Community Kitchen: Communal eating plays an important role in the Noke Koi culture. When the men return from hunting or fishing, the women will prepare the food, and the whole village gathers to celebrate the forest's bounty. The area they are using now as a communal kitchen is collapsing from years of use, and it is exposed to the weather, so they can’t gather when it’s raining. They dream of building a suitable structure for them to cook and celebrate the bounty of the harvest together. The building will include an oven and stove, a refrigerator, a freezer, solar panels for electricity and all cooking-ware, equipment and utensils.

$5,000 USD - Crafts Materials: Ever since the Noke Koi people came to be, they have worn crafts for protection and connection to the spiritual realms. While these were originally made of seeds and other natural materials, today the majority of them are made of beads and thread. These crafts represent a spiritual technology – a direct connection to the “kenes” or sacred visions the women see when they work with their spiritual medicines. They are very sacred pieces that are made with a lot of care and dedication.

$6,000 USD - Musical Instruments: Many of the young women have shown interest in playing instruments so they can join the men and shine as musicians during their spiritual offerings. The men have been able to get funds to purchase instruments due to their ability to travel and earn money with their work. For the women it’s generally more challenging to travel because they only speak their Native language (Noke Vana) and are not able to communicate with the external world. With your support we’ll be able to purchase guitars, drums and other instruments that will be exclusively given to the female txanas (musicians).

$7,000 USD - Artesanatos (crafts) House: A longstanding dream is to have a structure where they can gather to work on their crafts. They dream of a comfortable space where they can work and keep their materials and that could also serve as a showroom for visitors who would like to purchase crafts.

$10,000 - Educational Programs: We have implemented a few small programs to teach the women new skills and they have absolutely loved them! And have asked for more. Some of the things they’ve expressed interest in are sewing, painting and pottery. With your contributions we will buy sewing machines and materials for them to make and paint clothes and we’ll implement other skill-based programs such as pottery workshops.
