Founded in 1926, St. Luke AME Church has served our community with faith and dedication for a century. In 1988, our church family expanded by acquiring the historic building at 1854 Amsterdam Avenue. Originally constructed in 1872 as the NYPD's 32nd Police Precinct, this architectural treasure was officially designated a New York City Landmark in 2019. Today, this building serves as the home of the St. Luke AME Community Development Corporation (CDC). For more than 150 years, this landmark has stood in Sugar Hill, Harlem. Today, it requires critical, urgent restoration. St. Luke is not a wealthy congregation. What we have always been rich in, however, is our commitment to serving others. For decades, the St. Luke AME CDC building has functioned as the operational hub for our community outreach, family support, and neighborhood empowerment programs. Now, as we honor our legacy of service, we invite our congregation, neighbors, local businesses, foundations, and community partners to help us preserve this landmark so our CDC can continue its vital mission for generations to come.
