Meet NIVAS. We help women-led families in rural Nepal become homeowners. The families we work with are headed by single mothers and grandmothers raising kids under 16. Our name means “home” in Nepali, and that’s what we build: strong homes made to withstand earthquakes and floods. On every project, we train local community members, women and men side by side, in disaster-resilient construction to galvanize Nepali communities.

That work matters even more this season. On August 26, a glacier collapse in the Himalayas sent floodwaters down the river valleys north of Kathmandu. More than 1,300 people lost their lives, and at least 84,270 people were affected, including about 32,000 children. Families across the region are rebuilding now, and every home built to hold up against the next disaster helps keep a family safe and together. NIVAS is providing immediate needs, such as food, clothing, and school supplies, and we are collaborating with national government on housing reconstruction in the affected areas.

On October 22, Chocolate & Cashmere has opened its Pearl Street doors for an evening of chocolate and cheese pairings, bubbles, and shopping, and 15% of purchases that night will go to NIVAS. We’re so grateful to the Chocolate & Cashmere team for hosting, and to HMH Architecture + Interiors and Barb Passalacqua of Mile High Modern for their generous support in making the evening happen. Boulder has some phenomenal neighbors.

Make a gift today. Every donation helps build safe homes and train communities in Nepal to build for disaster resilience. If you can’t make it to Pearl Street, you can still be part of the evening by giving here. Then share this page with your friends and family, because every share brings more people to the table for families in Nepal.
