The Morona River—their only water source—was poisoned by an oil spill and ignored by those responsible. Women and children walk treacherous paths to collect water tainted with lead and cadmium. In 2023, two-year-old Dalila slipped from the riverbank while her parents collected water. The current swept her away. She was never found.
