Kitten season is here, and the Martinsville-Henry County SPCA needs your help!

Every year, "kitten season" is considered to be approximately April to September, when many litters of kittens are brought to our shelter needing care. As winters are getting warmer, more breeding is taking place throughout the winter months as well. Vital funds are needed to provide these kittens and mothers with shelter, supplies, food, medical care, and adoption services. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to assist with these costs. Consider a gift to the SPCA's Smitten with Kittens campaign to help fund these important resources!

If making a monetary gift is not possible at this time, there are many ways to directly support the SPCA's efforts this kitten season: foster families, inkind gifts, volunteering, and sharing this campaign!

We need volunteer foster families!

Every season is a bit different with how many kittens and mothers we take in. However, every mother with nursing kittens and kittens needing bottle-feeding have to be placed in a foster home. The standard foster period is around 7-8 weeks, but can be longer if the pregnant mother takes a while to have her kittens. Becoming a foster home is a rewarding and extremely important way to help the SPCA provide kittens and their mothers with neccessary care. We need supplies!

Both the shelter and foster families are in need of supplies for kitten season. Kitten-specific items include KMR (Kitten Milk Replacement), kitten bottles, heating pads, kitten collars, meat baby food, canned kitten food, and cleaners. The SPCA's full Wish List, including an Amazon Wish List, can be found here. Needed items you may have at home or can purchase at most stores include bath towels, Clorox bleach, Dawn dish soap, paper towels, Windex, Fabuloso or Pine Sol, laundry detergent, blankets, cat litter, canned chicken or tuna (in water not oil), and contractor-size trash bags.

We need shelter volunteers!

Volunteering your time and talents is a wonderful way to support the shelter's lifesaving work year round. We rely on the help of our volunteers to help keep the shelter running smoothly and the animals happy and healthy. Learn more and fill out a Volunteer Application here.
