Climate change is already reshaping daily life in the Kyangwali Refugee Settlement in Western Uganda. Seasons are less predictable, soil is degrading, and families who already face the challenges of displacement must now find new ways to grow food and protect their livelihoods.

But in the middle of these challenges, young leaders from the community are building solutions.

Solve & Flourish Africa (SOLFA) is a refugee-led initiative helping families respond to climate change through practical environmental education, tree planting, and climate-smart agriculture. The work is led by Fabris Mulindi, a Peace First Ambassador and the 2025–2026 African Youth Changemaker of the Year, who grew up in the very community where this work is happening.

What began as a youth-driven idea has quickly grown into a movement rooted in local knowledge and resilience. Over the past year, SOLFA has planted more than 1,000 trees, trained hundreds of families in climate-smart agriculture, and helped refugee households create sustainable home gardens that improve both nutrition and income. Young people are learning how to care for their environment while building skills that strengthen their communities.

This work matters because refugee communities are often portrayed only as victims of global crises. In reality, they are also innovators and leaders who are developing solutions that the world can learn from.

We are now working to expand these efforts so more families can participate, more youth can receive environmental education, and more land can be restored through sustainable practices.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 to grow these programs and strengthen SOLFA’s work in the community. Your support will help provide training for families, expand climate education for young people, plant more trees, and scale practical climate solutions that are already working.
