We’re holding our extended family in prayer as Hurricane Melissa continues her process. We began earlier this week, when heavy rains and strong winds had already begun. We have worked to secure the land, protect our people, serve as a safe haven for our community as needed.

At Solidarity Yaad, our mission is to build climate-resilient, community-rooted systems that center healing, food sovereignty, and safety for women, girls, LGBTQ+ folx, and elders. This storm reminds us why that work is so urgent — communities like ours sit at the heart of climate impact, yet also at the center of renewal.

Between February and May 2026, we plan to host skillshares in cob and bamboo building, flood mitigation, and climate-safe food systems, ensuring that our people can rebuild stronger and safer. We know that in the coming weeks, those plans will need to pivot — our focus will first turn to rebuilding systems and tending to the immediate needs of our community members impacted by this storm.

Right now, our Kingston house is without light and water. Before we lost contact with the farm on Tuesday morning 10/28, we’d already lost banana trees and our fenceline security, and we were anticipating 10–20 inches of water flowing through the land. Phone and internet access to our people at the farm remains unavailable.

Still, we remain steady — mobilizing supplies, food, and care as best we can.

Given the uncertainty ahead, we ask for your help to recover and continue showing up for our community — repairing structures, securing crops, and offering refuge to those most affected.
