If you know me, then you have heard about Camp Stevens, my favorite place in the world. It is the place where I continued to learn about openness, celebrating and learning from all people. Camp Stevens helped me fully grasp the meaning of gratitude, being grateful for all that surrounds me. It is the place that solidified my belief in making authentic connections with the people and nature around me. Camp Stevens challenged me to cultivate my sense of wonder in the world I live in.
Camp Stevens is also the place where I learned how to fix a leaky toilet, repair a damaged fence, and safely use a wood chipper. I met my best friend and now wife there, returning to have a deeply meaningful and fun wedding. While at Camp, I led team building activities, facilitated ropes course groups, taught outdoor education, assisted with counselor training, led folk dancing, and sang songs at community gathering. The list goes on and on...
This summer was going to be THE year. The year that Christine and I would return to Camp with our kids, sending our oldest to a week of summer camp. Ali was so excited to sleep in a cabin, climb in the treehouse, hike to see the sunset, meet new friends, and create countless memories. Christine and I were excited for Ali to have an experience that we never had, to be a camper at Camp Stevens. Ali was going to have the chance to learn about openness, gratitude, connection and wonder from the place that solidified these values in our lives. Sadly, it will not be happening this year for Ali, nor for all the other disappointed summer campers. While our family is deeply saddened by this necessary change of plans, we are committed to helping Camp Stevens emerge stronger than ever for the next group of summer campers.
Please join us in helping Camp Stevens while also completing a healthy and fun run/walk/hike together!
