For sixteen years, Sense of Place has featured people with unique knowledge of the Columbia River Gorge—scientists, tribal members, ranchers, authors, farmers, artists, and neighbors from across the Pacific Northwest. Together, we’ve explored the natural and cultural forces that shape this region and the histories that connect us.

Now, Sense of Place steps into its next chapter as an independent nonprofit.

Sense of Place is incorporated as a non-profit in the state of Oregon (EIN 41-4785859) and is in the process of gaining our tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service. We are working with the Center for Non-Profit Law to apply for our 501(c)(3) status, which would be retroactive to the date of incorporation (March 4, 2026). We will notify you if the IRS does not grant us retroactive tax-exempt status.
