For more than 20 years, SOTENI International has partnered with communities in rural Kenya to improve health, strengthen livelihoods, and help families build more secure futures. Our approach is rooted in partnership: we work alongside communities, building on their strengths and priorities to create change that can last.

At the heart of this work are 169 Support Groups representing more than 3,000 people living with HIV and their families. Support Groups provide a trusted community where members encourage one another, access health information and services, save together, develop businesses, and work toward greater financial independence.

Supporting these groups are SOTENI’s Community Champions, locally based community health workers who know the communities they serve and maintain ongoing relationships with Support Group members. They provide health education, conduct home visits, connect families with health and social services, and mentor Support Groups as they work toward their goals.

Through Sustaining Support Groups: Stronger Together Campaign, we are building on this trusted community network to help Support Groups strengthen their economic future. Your support helps provide entrepreneurship training, practical business skills, seed funding, and ongoing mentorship with the help of Community Champions. Members can use these tools to start or strengthen income-generating activities, increase household income and savings, and build greater financial resilience.

SOTENI continues to walk alongside the groups by monitoring progress, providing guidance, and learning what works. The goal is for an initial investment to set something bigger in motion: stronger businesses, increased income and savings, more resilient families, and Support Groups that can sustain their progress over time.
