Lightweight Rowing of California Spring Fundraising

This spring, our team is hitting the water with more momentum than ever. Following a successful fall season where we met our competitive benchmarks, we are thrilled to welcome nearly 80 new recruits to our program.

To keep this growth moving, we are heading across the country to compete against other club crews. Your support will directly fund our travel to:

President’s Cup | Sacramento, CA (03/08)
National Collegiate Lightweight Invitational | New York, NY (03/29)
San Diego Crew Classic | San Diego, CA (03/29)
Covered Bridge Regatta | Bend, OR (04/04)
WIRA Championship Regatta | Sacramento, CA (04/26)
ACRA National Championship | Oak Ridge, TN (05/17)

Traveling isn't just about the race. It’s a vital opportunity for our athletes to benchmark their hard work against national talent and represent our program on the national stage. Please consider making a gift today to help our athletes reach the finish line!

About Lightweight Rowing of California

The Lightweight Rowing Club of California (formerly Cal Lightweights) is a storied program with more than 50 years of history, dedicated to developing athletes and competing at the national level. Today, our team is home to over 80 men and women who train six days a week, embracing early mornings and rigorous workouts driven by their love of rowing and the bonds of teamwork.

Our team prides itself on inclusion. We welcome and train any student committed enough to join us as part of our broader mission to expand the sport of rowing and share its benefits with the Berkeley community.

Recent Achievements

Fall 2025: We welcomed over 60 athletes this fall, forming one of our strongest recruitment cycles in recent years. We competed at the Head of the American Regatta, winning gold in the mixed inclusive 2x (Chance Quarry, Max Bloom). We scrimmaged with UC Davis, offering valuable racing experience and bonding opportunities for both crews. As with all Fall seasons, we have worked on building up our fitness and rowing technique for the spring season.

Spring 2025: At the Western Intercollegiate Regional Association (WIRA) Championships in Sacramento, California, we placed 1st in both the Men's Novice Lightweight 4+ and Women's Varsity Pair. Our women's pair extended their regional success to the national stage, bringing home gold at the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta, the largest collegiate regatta in the United States.

Summer 2025: The Cal Lightweights proudly represented UC Berkeley in Shenzhen, China, at the 2025 X9 Alliance of Universities and Institutes Rowing League. Competing alongside prestigious institutions including Tsinghua University, Peking University, University of Oxford, University of Sydney, and University of Cambridge, as well as local Shenzhen universities, our team placed 5th in the mixed eight category.
