Why This Event Matters (by Jessica Lutterman)

Oral cancer doesn’t just take a physical toll — it can change how someone speaks, eats and connects with the world. I know this because it became part of my own life.

After multiple diagnoses and surgeries, I learned how precious our voices truly are and how deeply quality of life matters in healing. While traditional surgeries and treatments have saved my life, they also showed me how much patients sacrifice to survive.

Through an innovative immunotherapy clinical trial, I was given a path forward that has protected not just my health, but my ability to speak and live fully. That experience opened my eyes to what’s possible when research focuses not just on survival, but on dignity, hope, and the life patients return to afterward.

Swing for Every Voice was created to help move that progress forward. Proceeds from this golf outing will support the clinical trial I am participating in by funding access for other patients, reducing barriers to participation, and advancing research that prioritizes both survival and quality of life for those affected by oral cancer. By joining us, you’re helping ensure that no one has to feel silenced in their fight.
