Years of combat have left many with traumatic brain injury, PTSD, and depression — the same "invisible wounds" that the U.S. military has spent two decades learning to treat. Home Base, founded by Massachusetts General Hospital and the Boston Red Sox Foundation, built exactly that expertise. Their Comprehensive Brain Health and Trauma Program (ComBHaT) gives special operations veterans and service members a full week of evaluation and treatment: neuropsychological testing, physical therapy, sleep studies, psychiatric care, and more — all in one coordinated program, all at no cost to the patient.

Global Response Medicine is bringing that program to Ukraine's warriors.

This year, we're sending a Ukrainian special operations veteran or service member, his partner, and an accompanying physical therapist to Boston to go through ComBHaT together. For a soldier who has spent years on the front line, this week can be the first real diagnosis — and the first real path forward — he's ever had access to.

Your gift covers what the program itself doesn't: the flights to get them there, a place to stay in Boston, and meals for the week. Home Base provides the care. You get them in the door.

A full week of care, evaluation, and travel comes to about $10,000 per warrior. Every gift, at any size, gets him closer.

Why This Matters

Ukraine doesn't have a program like ComBHaT yet. Every operator we send to Boston isn't just getting care for himself — he's helping us learn what works, so Global Response Medicine and our partners can build the same kind of program inside Ukraine.

This trip is built to multiply. While the operator goes through ComBHaT, the physical therapist traveling with him will also take part in Home Base's Warrior Health and Fitness program — learning the evidence-based exercise, nutrition, and recovery methods Home Base uses with its own patients. He'll bring that training home and put it to work with the patients he treats in Ukraine every day.

What we learn treating drone-era combat trauma today will also shape how the U.S. military cares for its own service members in the next conflict. This isn't just an act of goodwill. It's an investment that pays off on both sides of the Atlantic.
