This sweet puppy is Blackie and he needs a new dog house asap! Blackie lives in a rural community in Southwest Alaska where it may not be as cold as some other places in the state but it still gets below freezing and can be very WINDY! We have a partner in this village who worked with the family to put something together for now....which is better than what is shown in the picture but he still needs a nice insulated dog house and straw.

Blackie's family really loves him and they do what they can to provide him with shelter but he tends to chew on his houses....so far they have been made of single sheets of plywood....so we are hoping a big/heavy/insulated/double walled Straw For Dogs house will be less appetizing to him. All we can do is TRY.....and HOPE Blackie does not like the taste of his new house!

The house itself costs us $375, plus $20 for a bale of straw and $25 to have it delivered to the airport in Anchorage = $420

If you would like to help sponsor a house for Blackie please donate here or you can send a check to P.O. Box 58012 Fairbanks AK 99711

While we at Straw For Dogs are not of the mindset that dogs should live outside in the cold away from their families, the reality is that many do.

We provide insulated dog houses and straw to dogs living outside in the harsh Alaskan climate. Even with a dog house and straw these living conditions are far from ideal. However, sending these resources are the most immediate action we can take to provide a little comfort to dogs who are suffering in the elements.

We continue to encourage people to bring their dogs inside (at least periodically for love and socialization), walk them, and play with them. We offer supplies to help with this as well.
