About the CRO Community Foundation

The Cultivating Resources & Opportunities (CRO) Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit rooted in eastern Wake County and driven by a simple but powerful belief: when we invest intentionally in people, communities thrive.

Established in 2013 by the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Chi Rho Omega Chapter, the CRO Community Foundation was created to address the unmet social, educational, physical, and economic needs of families and individuals across North Carolina. Our work is not theoretical. It is deeply personal, and it shows up where it matters most: in classrooms, counseling centers, family kitchens, and student dorm rooms.

What We Do

We advance opportunity and equity by:

Providing scholarships and educational support to high-achieving, high-potential students
Strengthening youth development so young people can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally
Mobilizing community partnerships and resources to deliver programs that create lasting impact

Impact You Can See—and Feel

In 2025 alone, the CRO Community Foundation:

Awarded $16,500 in scholarships to four outstanding students pursuing careers in medicine, engineering, counseling, and the sciences
Raised and awarded $30,724.61 in grants to expand mental-health services at nine North Carolina HBCUs, helping close critical funding gaps for counseling centers serving thousands of students
Powered community-driven giving through Day of Giving and Giving Tuesday campaigns, proving that every gift matters
Strengthened our work through monthly sustaining donors and employer-supported philanthropy
