About the CRO Community Foundation

The Cultivating Resources & Opportunities (CRO) Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit rooted in eastern Wake County and driven by a simple but powerful belief: when we invest intentionally in people, communities thrive.

Established in 2013 by the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Chi Rho Omega Chapter, the CRO Community Foundation was created to address the unmet social, educational, physical, and economic needs of families and individuals across North Carolina. Our work is not theoretical. It is deeply personal, and it shows up where it matters most: in classrooms, counseling centers, family kitchens, and student dorm rooms.

What We Do

We advance opportunity and equity by:

Providing scholarships and educational support to high-achieving, high-potential students
Strengthening youth development so young people can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally
Mobilizing community partnerships and resources to deliver programs that create lasting impact

Impact You Can See—and Feel

The CRO Community Foundation continues to create measurable impact through strategic giving and community investment. In 2025, the Foundation awarded $16,500 in scholarships to four students pursuing careers in medicine, engineering, counseling, and the sciences, and distributed $30,724.61 in grants to expand mental-health services at nine North Carolina HBCUs. Through Day of Giving, Giving Tuesday, sustaining donors, and employer-supported philanthropy, the Foundation has strengthened resources that promote access, dignity, and opportunity. Looking ahead, CRO remains committed to bold, mission-driven growth through initiatives such as Pink Goes Red for Heart Health, strategic partnerships, and responsible stewardship that builds lasting impact for future generations.
