STEM Paths Innovation Network (SPIN) started in 2015 as a single class at the Filipino Community Center in Southeast Seattle. Ten years on, we run more than 75 programs with 36 community partners and reach over 1,200 students a year across King County.

We build for the kids King County's STEM economy has left out — girls, gender-expansive youth, and BIPOC students — and we welcome any student who wants in. In practice that means a kid whose family can't cover private lessons still gets to learn about robotics, and students of all backgrounds receive mentorship from STEM professionals who look like them. Identity and income should decide who succeeds in STEM.

King County has one of the fastest-growing STEM economies in the country, and South King County, home to our region's most diverse communities, is largely locked out of it. Our students have the capabilities to be powering that economy. Right now the path there is invisible to most of them, and our whole job is to make it visible and then walk it with them.

We can't keep up with demand. Schools ask us for programs we don't have the resources to run, and the ceiling on this work is funding. Your gift buys specific things: a spool of filament, a year of design software for a classroom, a field day at a lab or aerospace manufacturing floor, or a microphone kit for students producing their own science podcast.

King County's next generation of engineers and scientists are sitting in a South King County classroom right now, and supporting SPIN with a one-time or monthly gift helps these leaders of tomorrow reach their potential.
