Stronger Together: Why your gift to IAFCC reaches 44 clinics, not just one

There's a free clinic near you, and I bet you don't know it's there. It's quietly providing essential care to many of your neighbors — practicing street medicine in city park encampments, offering free vision screenings to people rebuilding their lives after incarceration, running pop-up dental clinics inside shelters, building full-service medical homes with wraparound care and free pharmacies.

Each of those clinics looks different, because each one was shaped by the community around it. But behind every single one of them is the same organization, working to make sure they can keep their doors open and their care strong: the Illinois Association of Free and Charitable Clinics.

That looks like our annual conference, where clinic staff and volunteers from across the state learn from each other's successes and challenges. It looks like subsidized consulting services that help a small clinic solve a leadership development, human resources, or fundraising challenge they couldn't afford to solve alone. And this is a hard year. Illinois' uninsured population is growing fast. Over 92,000 Illinois residents lost or dropped their Marketplace insurance this year after premium tax credits expired. The state ended its Health Benefits for Immigrant Adults program last year, eliminating coverage for approximately 33,000 residents. And new Medicaid work requirements and redetermination rules could push as many as 400,000 more Illinoisans out of coverage starting January 1.

That's more than half a million of our neighbors who are, or soon will be, newly uninsured — and every one of them is a potential patient at one of our 44 clinics.
