We are so excited to share that Sugar's chemotherapy has been working and she's nearly ready for surgery! This beautiful mare came to us anxious and overwhelmed from another rescue, and entered the Dakota Showdown Horse Trainer Challenge for a chance at a new life. With her amazing trainer Cara McWilliams, she built confidence and trust, learned so very much, and showed that deep down is a brave and loving horse.

Unfortunately, her new trust also let us find out that she had a very large and invasive Squamous Cell Carcinoma tumor in her vaginal area. Cara stood by her side over the summer and with your support, Sugar was able to receive chemotherapy treatments that have shrunk the tumor significantly to the point we're ready to head into surgery to try to remove it all!

We've consulted with several hospitals and estimates for her surgery range from $800-2000, depending on what is found when they start the surgery. Additionally the closest clinic is 3.5 hours away - the furthest 8+ hours - so there is transport and recovery costs to consider. We're going to be optimistic and start with a goal of $2000 ... and as soon as we reach it we can schedule her trip!
