Every year, we face a significant challenge known as Summer Hunger—a time when the demand for food assistance spikes as children are out of school and no longer receiving daily meals.

Understanding Summer Hunger

During the summer months, many families struggle to provide the same level of nutrition their children receive during the school year. Without access to school meal programs, children may go hungry, impacting their health, development, and ability to enjoy their break. This seasonal spike in need is something we at The Center for Hope are committed to addressing head-on.

The Impact on Local Families

To truly understand the gravity of Summer Hunger, consider these real situations right here in our community:

Sue, Executive Director, was told people were asking for food to take home or a second meal "pretty fast" after the church dinner one night.

Many of us give thanks to God that we are not in the position of having to ask someone for our next meal as we finish the dinner in front of us. Perhaps you can help?

In another real life situation, a lady called into the center wanting to know how her children could get a free snack bag. In desperation she asked "What day? What time?"

Have you ever been in a position where 4 items in a snack bag for your kids are a really big deal? We are blessed to be able to support her by allowing her to come in she was able to come in to help get the support she needed for her children.

Our Efforts to Combat Summer Hunger

To meet the increased demand during the summer months, The Center for Hope has implemented several special programs and partnerships. These include:

Hungry Kids Bags Programs: Providing nutritious snacks to children throughout the summer.
Family Sponsorship Program: Allowing donors to sponsor a family's meals for a week, month, or the entire summer break.
Community Food Drives: Collecting non-perishable food items to ensure our pantry is well-stocked.
