A glorious springtime Saturday afternoon comes to life with what Jazziz magazine calls “explosive, unabashed” afrofunk, live in Greensboro with Kaleta & Super Yamba Band on the Double Oaks Stage at Borough Coffee. Celebrating the release of the new studio album, Ayinonvi.

Bring your loved ones, your dancing shoes, and your goodtime spirits as we get down to one of the most electrifying live bands on the planet and officially kick off the outdoor music season with Brooklyn's Afrofunk dance party.This is an all-ages, outdoor day party — dancers encouraged, kids (and their attentive parents) welcomed as those under 16 are free — this is a party for all.

Brooklyn's Kaleta & Super Yamba Band are fronted by Leon Ligan-Majek — known to the world simply as Kaleta — a guitarist from the West African nation of Benin Republic who came of age in Lagos, Nigeria, where Afrobeat was born. He is the only guitarist on earth to have backed both Fela Kuti and King Sunny Ade, spending years touring the globe with Fela's legendary bands before eventually planting roots in New York City. With more than 40 years deep in the genre, Kaleta is no less than an Afrobeat legend — and with Super Yamba Band, he's channeling all of that history into something raw, joyful, and impossible to stand still to. Their debut album Mèdaho landed on Bandcamp's Best Albums of Summer 2019, two tracks were featured on the ABC/Hulu series High Fidelity, and they've graced stages from the Apollo Theatre to major festivals coast to coast. Popmatters called them "an absolutely outrageous combination of Brooklyn and West Africa that's ready to burn down the house." We couldn't agree more. This is their first Greensboro appearance since a show-stealing set at the 2022 North Carolina Folk Festival — and Super Yamba Band counts several Greensboro (and Westerwood!!) natives among its ranks, including Walter Fancourt, Evan Frierson, and Joseph Daniel Yount. Opening the afternoon is Greensboro's own DJ Bisco (Jon Oner), setting the tone with a funk-infused global house DJ set that'll have you warmed up and moving before the band even hits the stage.

Doors open at 3:00 PM, with the show kicking off at 3:30 PM. Borough Coffee at Double Oaks is an all-ages venue, so the whole crew is welcome — kids under 12 get in free. On-site food vendors and cold beverages will be on hand to keep you fueled all afternoon. General admission tickets are $20.
