CORNERSTONE OF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

Formed by a coalition of residents in 1984, the Sherman Heights Community Center (SHCC) opened its doors in 1994, establishing a centralized hub for essential health, social, recreational, and childcare services for inner-city families. As a trusted neighborhood anchor, SHCC vital work continues today, reaching approximately 2,000 individuals monthly, primarily serving working-class Latino families in Sherman Heights & nearby communities.

Programming includes: Healthy Food Access: distributions, pantry, hot meals, & resource navigation; Year-Round Youth & Senior Enrichment: fostering connection & lifelong learning; Health & Wellness: physical & mental well-being through fitness, nutrition, healthy parenting & events; Sherman Cocina: a robust culinary entrepreneurship program; Education & Literacy: English as a Second Language, U.S. Citizenship, & digital literacy; neighborhood cleanups, public art, & cultural programming.

Together, our history and integrated programs position SHCC as a trusted, culturally responsive, resilient community organization committed to advancing stability, opportunity, & belonging for generations to come.
