My name is Laekin. I am a CHD heart mom. And I built Invisible Warriors because I know exactly what it feels like to sit in a hospital waiting room not knowing if your child is going to make it.

My daughter Amelia was born with a congenital heart defect. A rare, spontaneous genetic mutation that gave us no warning. No roadmap. No answers.

When we asked what her future looked like the doctors said something no parent should ever hear.

We don’t know.

Not enough research. Not enough data. Not enough of anything to tell us what tomorrow looked like for our daughter.

And while we were fighting for her life we were also fighting to keep the lights on. Fighting to keep food on the table. Fighting to hold ourselves together so we could hold her.

Nobody came.

Nobody showed up with groceries. Nobody covered the bills piling up while we lived at that hospital. Nobody sat with us in that waiting room and said — we’ve got you.

So when Amelia came home we made a decision.

We were going to be the people who show up.

For the mom who hasn’t eaten since yesterday because she won’t leave her baby’s bedside.

For the dad watching bills go to collections while his child is in surgery.

For the parent who had to bury their child and couldn’t afford to do it with dignity.

For the family getting the same answer we got — we don’t know — and deserving so much better than that.
