Five Years Later, Afghan Girls Are Still Rising

On August 15, 2026, we mark five years since Afghan women and girls were banned from education, sports, and many opportunities to participate fully in society. Yet, across the world, Afghan girls continue to show courage, determination, and hope.

The Tawana Organization was founded on a simple belief: every girl deserves the opportunity to play, lead, and dream. Through the power of soccer, Tawana creates spaces where Afghan girls can build confidence, develop leadership skills, and find belonging.

This year, we are bringing Afghan girls from across the United States together for the First U.S. National Afghan Girls Soccer Tournament—a historic gathering celebrating resilience, community, and the unbreakable spirit of Afghan women and girls.

Why This Tournament Matters

For many Afghan girls, soccer is more than a game. It represents freedom, connection, teamwork, and the ability to imagine a future where they can achieve their goals.

This tournament will provide young athletes the opportunity to:

⚽ Compete and celebrate their love of soccer
🤝 Build friendships and connections across communities
🌱 Develop leadership and confidence through sport
🇦🇫 Honor the resilience and achievements of Afghan women and girls
