Our Community is at a Crossroads

For years, about 10 percent of global carbon emissions, significant wastewater and landfill impacts is created by the apparel industry. The Nanka Foundation has launched the Nanka Green initiative to help build a practical, cross- border model that joins education, scientific innovation, garment design, production and distribution with a main focus on environmental responsibility. The Nanka Foundation serves as a cornerstone of local progress. However, as our community grows and the demand for new fashion increases, so does the need for the vital sustainable services. Current research data reports approximately 92 million tons of textile waste yearly and 20 percent of global water pollution comes from textiles. In fact, we use over 2000 gallons of water to produce a pair of jeans. There is about 25 percent increase in service requests over the last fiscal year, stretching our existing resources to their maximum capacity. To maintain our standard of excellence and ensure a wider spread of awareness and real change, we must expand our operational reach.

The Need for Strategic Expansion

Our current limitations are not just numbers; they represent a wide array of students, small businesses in textile manufacturing and fashion waiting for support. To address these gaps, we have launched this campaign to secure the necessary capital for infrastructure and program scaling. This initiative focuses on four primary pillars:

Infrastructure Enhancement: Modernizing our facilities or partner spaces to accommodate a higher volume of participants safely and efficiently. Water, energy, chemical and waste measurements paired with renewable energy and efficiency demonstrations.
Circular Textiles: Repair, reuse, offcut recovery and material collection pilots that keep textiles in use and out of disposal.
Program Scaling: Increasing the frequency of our seminars and core services to reduce wait times by an estimated 40 percent.
Community Resilience and Green Skills: Investing in experienced industry experts, key note speakers, specialized equipment that directly improves the quality of care and support delivered to our beneficiaries. Culturally grounded workshops with industry leaders and education on sustainability

For example, a gift of $500 provides essential materials on sustainability for 10 program participants, while a larger investment of $5,000 can fund an entire month of specialized service delivery on new renewable and reusable processes in the life cycle of a garment. Your support directly enables us to bridge the gap between our current capacity and the community's actual needs.

We have already secured 30 percent of our funding goal through early leadership gifts. This momentum is promising, but the remaining 70 percent is critical to breaking ground on these improvements.
