Black Policy Day is more than a single event—it's a year-round movement empowering West Virginians to engage in the decisions that shape their communities.

Founded in 2022 by Crystal Good, Katonya Hart, and Dr. Shanequa Smith, Black Policy Day was created to make civic engagement, leadership, and public policy more accessible, welcoming, and community-centered for Black West Virginians and other historically underrepresented communities.

Black Policy Day has helped deepen civic engagement, expand leadership, and increase policy knowledge across West Virginia. It has become a catalyst for collaboration, learning, and collective action, empowering communities to engage more effectively in the policies and decisions that shape their future.

Each year, hundreds of people gather at the State Capitol to connect, learn, and engage with the policies that shape their lives. Throughout the year, we continue this work by supporting civic education, youth leadership development, community conversations, and engagement efforts in communities across West Virginia.

Our goal is to raise $100,000 to support Black Policy Day 2027 and sustain this work year-round.
