The average lifetime out-of-pocket for a spinal cord injury (SCI) can range from $1 million to $6 million, based on age and level of injury. Given the significant physical, social, and financial impacts on individuals, families, and caretakers, coupled with the approximately 18,000 new cases and 302,000 people living with spinal cord injury (SCI) in the United States each year, it’s clear that this healthcare equity issue is severely underserved.

The Thomas E. Smith Foundation aims to ensure that no one is denied essential healthcare equipment, physical therapy, or other services. We partner with top organizations to improve quality of care and hopefully one day, find a cure for paralysis.
