The Country House Project wants to save grandma's house and the legacy for our FUTURE

The Country House Project is a 501(c)3 descendant-led initiative dedicated to preserving African American ancestral landscapes, and strengthening descendant communities through heritage-based self-determination.

Anchored by the restoration of the Covesville House in the Covesville Historic District, The Country House Project addresses a national crisis: the loss of Black-owned land and the erasure of rural Black heritage.

Since 1910, African Americans have lost nearly 90% of their farmland—a decline from 14 million acres to less than 4 million today—due largely to heirs’ property laws, systemic discrimination, and development pressures. The Country House Project responds by offering training, trust-building frameworks, preservation programs, and land stabilization models to prevent further dispossession while creating pathways for cultural reconciliation and sustainable community development.
