Officer Matthew Hillis, a proud member of the Greenbrier Police Department, recently experienced a devastating medical emergency while on duty. Following a motor vehicle collision, doctors discovered that Matthew had suffered a seizure caused by a previously unknown brain tumor.

Now, Matthew and his family are facing an unimaginable road ahead filled with medical treatments, uncertainty, and challenges no family should have to face alone. Matthew is scheduled to undergo surgery Tuesday to remove the tumor as doctors begin fighting alongside him in this battle.

As you can imagine, this season will place an emotional and financial strain on the Hillis family. Matthew’s wife will be stepping away from work in order to be by his side throughout surgery, recovery, treatments, and the difficult days ahead.

Matthew has dedicated his life to serving others. Before joining the Greenbrier Police Department in 2025, he honorably served our country in the United States Army and has continued that servant’s heart through law enforcement since becoming certified in Tennessee in 2023.

Today, it’s our turn to serve him.
